BALAT VODİNA NO4

Restoration Project in Fener-Balat/Istanbul

Restoration Year: 2019

Construction Area: 200 sqm

Details: This was a long neglected late 19th century neo-classical building in the old Greek quorter of Istanbul. It consists of four floors with a shop on Street level, and a terrace with sweeping views of Golden Horn. After Project approvals, work started first by removing late additions and paring back to original layers. We sourced the stone quarry, where the original stones of the facade was built in the late 1880’s, then we restored back to its former state and used locally sourced wide timber planks of the original house. Using genuine organic materials and staying true to its identity was imperative in this project.
